Forbes Magazine revealed its 30th annual list of the world's richest people Tuesday, featuring 1,810 billionaires around the world, down 16 from last year. Their total net worth was $6.48 trillion.
The United States had 540 billionaires, among them, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates who ranked number one for the third consecutive year. Only five men in the world have made had the title, in part because Gates has secured 17 out of 22 years.
Republican frontrunner Donald Trump also made the list, with a net worth of $4.5 billion, up a few hundred million from the previous year. But that is still "quite a lot higher" that what he's claimed, according to Forbes assistant managing editor of wealth Luis Kroll.
"Well before he was a candidate, he's been doing this song and dance trying to inflate his numbers," Kroll told "CBS This Morning" Tuesday. "In a story we did in the fall, he actually admitted at one point that he'd exaggerated his numbers to Forbes."
Along with Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg made his first appearance in the top ten. While ranking number six, Zuckerberg made the biggest gains this year, up over $11 billion, due to his strong success with stocks.
At age 31, Zuckerberg was the youngest of the top ten richest, but 66 young billionaires under the age 40 also made the list, 36 of whom have made their own fortunes.
But the list also points to a gender gap -- 190 women made the list -- down from 197 last year -- and only 33 were self-made. The U.S. still topped other countries for the largest number of female billionaires, with 65 making the cut.
